So, now that we’ve sold our TV, DVD player and music system, the laptop has taken over the work done by all three. While we can’t see DVD’s on the laptop, as we seem to be missing a DVD decoder on it, we can see VCDs on it and the audio and video is pretty good quality. We had signed up for a DVD rental place last year and still had close to 10 rentals pending, so this is a great way of being able to use them us, even though now we can rent on VCD’s and not DVD’s. So, the end result is that yes, it is possible to manage without a TV!!
We have a 2 bdr house worth of furniture and electronics that needed to be sold and so far we’ve sold or agreed to sell about 80% of it. Several of our buyers have agreed to come by later to pick up their purchases, so we can still use them until we leave. We sold the TV, DVD player and music system last night and are sorely missing them. I think once we set up home a lcd tv is definitely on the cards, a much more modern version of what we had. Yes, had it’s already in the past tense.
The way electronics are changing every few years, it really makes sense to keep updating your stuff, before it gets too old and then you either get a nominal amount for it or have to just toss it in the garbage. Thankfully, we did manage to get a decent price for all the electronics we’ve sold so far. Furniture is going but at a lower price than we though it would, but at lease it’s going and I don’t have to worry about how to dispose of it before we leave.
We’ve been completely caught up in sorting through stuff and selling some of our larger items. So far it’s been a good run, although our car still remains to be sold, which is the largest item. We have one solid buyer, the dealership where we bought the car, who is willing to buy it back from us and give us a slightly lower than we wanted price. We have another few days to decide and then will most likely go with them, since the paperwork etc will be simplest with them, as they would pay off our outstanding car loan and give us the balance, so we don’t have to do the run around for it ourselves.
I must say that I have learnt a lot this past week on how to handle selling things, big and small. All in all it’s been quite a good experience so far. I will write more on which the best sites are to advertise on and how to go about it once I am a bit freer.
