Now that I have a source of inspiration as well as guide, I am quite looking forward to making some changes in the apartment. One of the things I am tempted to change is the kitchen sink, since our current one is really tiny. Then again I’ve seen some really tiny but great kitchen sinks that create a wonderful space, but still manage to make it effective. It all depends on how you decorate it I guess. Apart from the sink, I also need to work on creating a pantry area, for which I have the space, but just need to buy a rack of some sort.
I spent the better part of the day yesterday looking through the Smallest Coolest Apartment 2007 contest at Apartment Therapy. I discovered this site just a couple of weeks back and am completely hooked. I love being able to see what others are doing with their apartments, especially making small apartments more livable by using innovative methods of storage and lifestyle. I’ve barely gone though half the list of the entries and can’t wait to see them all. I’ve got lots of great ideas already and hope to be able to implement them effectively in my own apartment. The areas where I really need to work on are the kitchen, bath and entry way, so I’m looking mostly at these areas.
Since the main highlight of my trip is going to be a wedding, I am really excited about wearing some of my jewelry that I barely ever get to wear. Last summer we traveled overseas for a wedding and decided to take costume jewelry with us, as we didn’t want to worry about carrying expensive heirloom jewelery with us on our travels, but this time I will be wearing the real thing, which makes it all so exciting. I have yet to plan my wardrobe for the wedding, since there are about 5-6 functions, along with a couple of other occasions that I will need some formal attire for, so I have quite a bit of work planned out for me.
All of a sudden I’ve realized that there is a ton of work to be done before I leave, things to be bought, things to be organized, things for taking and so on. All this besides the work I have to do anyways, which seems to be never ending at this point. How is it that when you have lots of time ahead of you, there is no work in sight, and vice versa. It always seems to happen to me, maybe it’s just that I need to get more organized about my work schedule and that’s it, or to plan my trips with more notice, so I don’t have to rush about like I usually am.
The state of education today is changing so fast, that students need to make an extra effort to keep up with it. One thing that has made a huge difference in recent times is the rise of Online Universities which have made it so much simpler for people to continue their studies, no matter where they live and even if they hold down a full time job. The emphasis of education is no longer just to provide a polish to an individual, it is rather to create a skilled professional, one who is able to get a great job and make a career for them self, rather than just a job. A lot of people realize this and have gone in for specialized degrees that give them in depth knowledge of a specialized subject rather than a general knowledge of a vast number of subjects. While it is important to have an well-rounded knowledge, it is essential to have some specialized training at the higher level of education. This really is the key to being successful.
What is it about the onset of the weekend that makes us work even harder and faster? I simply love the extra energy I get just in anticipation of the weekend, so that I can finish off all my work and keep the weekend absolutely free for personal stuff. Lately, it seems that the weekends have been rushing up all of a sudden, which is really nice actually. It’s going to be October in less than a week, hard to believe right? The year has rushed by just so quickly, it feels like it just started and now we’re heading into winter already!
Ever since my antivirus expired a month back, I’ve been planning to get a new one, since I did not want to renew my subscription with my earlier anti-virus company as they really weren’t that great. There is a good deal going on at Norton, a company that is known for its reliability and advancement of technology to keep up with all the new virus’ that are continuously coming out of the woodwork all the time. Let’s hope this time I have a better experience.
Pop-up stores on the prowl again
One of the things that I like to look for when I surf the internet is to look for new trends in the retail industry. It was due to one of these surfing stints that I found out about Pop-up stores several years back. Pop-up stores are those that are opened for a short duration of time, and are usually located in a high profile area. The trend for pop-up stores carried on to several other pop-up’s including pop-up hotels, loos and coat checks at concert venues etc. These have been extremely popular, especially in the UK and in Europe.
One of the things I plan to do on my trip home next month is to check out some of the local land for sale, as I’ve always wanted to buy some land in the hills, where I can go up and spend some time chilling out. There is nothing nicer than taking a trip to the hills and having grown up in the area, certainly makes it even more emotional to buy some land nearby. I have no idea what the prices are, although I am aware that they have been rising quite fast in the past few years. Let’s hope for the best.
I’m starting to get excited about my trip next week. There’s a ton of stuff to do as yet and I have to finish all my pending work as well before I leave, since I don’t want to have any work to do while I’m there. I will already have lots to do, since I have a wedding to attend which has 5 functions and need to get my clothes in order quickly. I also need to visit my local doc to get some long pending check ups done, so it will be quite a busy trip actually, and unlikely to have much time to rest and relax.
