The hardest decisions we had to make for our new house was to figure out what kind of window treatments to get installed. While we have moved and set up home several times, the windows in our new house are completely different than I have ever had before and required a completely new type of treatment. Added to that we get a lot of direct sunlight for which we needed to get double window treatments, to cut down on the heat and the glare. We decided to get bamboo shades as well as curtains in front to create a nice effect, as well as a cool environment. I found a lot of inspiration and help at JustBlinds, which is one of the largest independent window treatment retailers in the US. I love the look it has created and it has been a really fun experience. Now it’s time to plan the next seasonal change for my windows!

Payless Shoes is changing lately. The shoe company is changing the way people perceive it by adding a host of new designers, styles and advertising. New designs under the labels of Abaete, Lela Rose and Alice + Olivia are the company’s latest offerings, the first of which will be in stores this fall. The changes are the doings of Payless CEO Matt Rubel, in what he called a way to “democratize design”. New designers and designs are likely to bring in new customers as well as create a higher level of interest in the market for the brand in general.

Rubel set out to find designers who were well known enough to be respected as fashion insiders but hadn’t become household names. “Some designers at the earliest stages of their careers are sometimes the most vibrant, but for some reason they’re not sticking,” he says. “I think we’re doing a service to the industry by platforming the young innovators.”

Following up with my last post on celebrity trends, there has been a surge of emphasis on looking good, and a rise of places such as this charlotte cosmetic dentist, where it is possible to make your teeth look all nice and pretty. The world’s largest retailer has been making lots of changes in the recent past, but this will be one of the most interesting one to watch and see how it pans out.

One of the key items that we looked for in a home were the quality of light and type of windows. It was one of the main things we asked real estate agents for, since we were absolutely sure that we only wanted a house that had great light and high quality windows. For a lot of people, things like these don’t make any difference at all, but to us, it is of utmost importance. Our new home has lots of light coming in from tall windows and even though we don’t have windows installed from Anglian just at the present, it is definitely one of the things that we have on our list. I would like to have a new set put in that would offer better sealing from the heat and dust and also would be easy to open and clean. So, we have our work planned out for now and hope to get started soon.

I find that I’m using my new recipe site All Recipes more and more. I signed up as a member last week, after using the site since 2004, and have started saving recipes in my recipe box there, so I can find all the ones that I like without a problem. I’ve also signed up for the Daily Recipe mailing, so I get a new recipe every day and so far all of them have been really good and I have ended up saving them to my recipe box. Lots of inspiration for cooking these days!

American Girl is going places! The company opened its first store with its new retail format in Atlanta under the American Girl Boutique and Bistro label. While the store has less space than its flagship store, this one does have space specifically for parties, which the company hopes will be a new way to bond with its target audience. The company wants the boutique stores to give greater access to the American Girl brand, encouraging multiple visits, especially those beyond shopping trips. The American Girl Boutique store is spread over 12,000 sq ft of space as compared to 40,000 sq ft that American Girl Place is in locations such as New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.

I’m looking forward to traveling again next month, when I go home for a wedding and to catch up with friends and family. It will be a short trip, but it will be worth it, I’m sure as all trips home are. I do hope to do a bit of travel to the mountains as well on our trip, which is the what really lures me back home each time. While we are still to plan the trip details, but going up for a short trek definitely sounds like a wonderful way to round off the trip.
