I wanted to post this picture that I took some time back. It has been taken in my home, in a corner of the living room. I like to have beautiful things around me, as I find that they can be a great mood lifter. It’s completely subconsciously that it happens, but if you are surrounded by things you love then it is a given that you will feel better just by having them around you. I love to chronicle my time with the things I have collected over the years, which I find is a great way to remember the good times and reminisce.

Here’s a shot I took in my living room some time back.

Walmart has announced that it will be offering free classified ad services on its site Walmart.com. The company launched its site at the end of May and is currently in beta stage. Consumers can search for cars, pets, jobs and real estate on the website. According to Ravi Jariwala, spokesman for Walmart, “Our new classifieds beta at Walmart.com provides an expanded offering of products and services, the majority of which are not traditionally available from Wal-Mart.” Walmart has been doing things differently lately, in an effort to stay competitive on things other than just price, for which it has been the leader for quite some time.

There is no such thing as a free lunch right? And every good thing has some not so good side effect! For all those who are interested in losing weight and looking good this summer, you might want to check out this review of Leptovox, which is apparently quite unbiased, as it lists both the good and the bad points of the pill. A lot of diet pill sites will never mention any negative side effect, but it is just plain silly, since once people start using it, everyone will know. Instead, it is better to inform people about both the good and the bad and let them decide for themselves, as to whether it is something that they can deal with or not. Also if it something that will work with their bodies or not, since what works for your best friend, might not necessarily work for you.

Ikea’s first store in New York City located in Brooklyn opened amid thousands of fans mobbing the store on opening day. Underneath the excitement, is however, the frugality of shoppers in these times of economic slowdown. Even loyal customers are thinking twice about buying items at the store, despite is low prices. A lot of people are specifically visiting the store looking for smaller items, especially sale items.

According to Anders Dahlvig, the CEO and president of Ikea, the slowdown in the housing market has affected its global sales and led to a much reduced levels of impulse buying. He added that the company does not expect any economic recovery in the next two years at least. The countries that have been affected the most are Germany, the US and Britain. The company is trying to focus on newer markets such as Russia, China and countries in Eastern Europe where the markets are growing.

While IKEA faces increasing competition from discounters like Wal-Mart Stores Inc., which has freshened up its home furnishings sections, retailers can’t match IKEA’s breadth of offerings. A typical IKEA store features about 10,000 items. The Brooklyn store offers 49 room vignettes and three model homes, tailored to apartment living.

In the U.S., IKEA’s second-biggest market behind Germany, sales increased a respectable 10 percent in its last fiscal year, but below the 21 percent pace of the previous year, according to Pernille Spiers-Lopez, president of its North America division. The U.S. market accounts for about 10 percent of total sales, which reached 21 billion euros, or about $32 billion, in its last fiscal year.

Everyone loves dressing up in costumes, but some of the most fun costumes that I have seen have been these renaissance costumes, which are amazing authentic and really so different from what one sees at all the other costume stores. The Renaissance was a time of change, a time of redoing everything, a time of questioning and its only fitting that these costumes stand apart from all the others, I suppose. I’ve always loved reading about historical times and the Renaissance is one of the most intriguing periods of European history. I have a couple of books about the time period, and hope to build on my collection with time.
