The internet and computers have radically changed the way we work and thanks to technology, it is possible to physically be in any location, but keep in touch with work and family across the world. One of the great applications of this is being able to have remote access to your PC, so that you never have to worry about files of documents that are only stored at one location.

To be able to access your PC from a remote location, all one needs is an internet connection. For small or medium businesses, this is a great way to boost productivity and ensures that work gets done no matter what. Competing firms like gotomypc also offer similar systems, but at a higher cost, so for a new company RemotePC is one of the best options. The most recent release of RemotePC offers Vista compatibility as well as a remote meeting option where as many as 10 users can share the same desktop, making it extremely cost effective and usable in the real world.

As businesses become more reliant on the use of technology, the need for companies that provides hardware solutions and accessories is growing steadily. CensusPC was one such company that started out as a distributor of motherboards, peripherals and system integration, but expanded with the growth in the market to set up an e-commerce portal where it could be accessed by end-users themselves. The company now carries a wide range of products such as multimedia devices, bare bone computer systems and power supply requirements on its site that caters to everyone from retailers, to corporate clients to governmental and educational institutions.

Dubai has become known for its large scale of doing everything. If a mall has to be built, it has to be the largest in the world. Things seem incongruous at first, things like a ski slope in the mall in a desert, but after a while one comes to expect such audacity from local architecture. The new Dubai Mall, which opened last week has an Olympic size skating rink, the largest single plate aquarium in the world and a three zone Discovery Center, complete with penguins, sharks and so on. I’m yet to go see the mall…hopefully this weekend….and I hope it lives up to its hype. With over 1200 stores in the amll, not all are even open as yet, so that will be a little time in coming.

How Can IT Certification From Cisco Change Your Life?

The best thing about learning is that there is always room for it, no matter where you are, what your career is and how much money you have. Take the IT field for example, where there are new developments not just every year, but every month and week as well. So if you want to stay competitive and in the professional race, then you have to make the commitment to constantly updating your skills and learning. Luckily it’s a lot easier than it sounds, as companies such as Cisco have made it quite streamlined to get into certification programs where you can acquire all the skills you need to race up the promotion ladder.

The IT field has historically (although there’s not really a very long history) been very conscious of continuous learning programs and whether you are in the IT field already or are thinking of making a switch to this growing field, getting into a training program might be the first step. Although I have some basic IT training, I have not done a Cisco training course, but it seems like a good step to take, even in my field. With this training, I could be opening a lot more doors in my career and taking it to another level.

What Cisco certification does is that it offers an entirely new set of jobs once you have complete the training, regardless of if you select the entry level training option, associate level option, professional or expert level certification options. With such a certification program, one is liable to get significantly higher salaries, more career options, competitive advantage, and one of the most important things for most people, recognition in the field. With so many plus points, to it there doesn’t seem to be any other option right!

Retailers, especially luxury retailers are having to change how they do business. It’s no longer unusual to see massive reductions on high end fashion labels like Christian Dior and Christian Lacroix, and Neiman Marcus which has always been rather restrictive with its sales, has cut the prices for brands such as Marc Jacobs, Prada, Manolo Blahnik and Jean Paul Gaultier to half price. Nordstrom started its much awaited semi annual sale earlier this year.

Retailers are also tying up in interesting combinations, with Vera Wang signing a deal with Kohl’s, Ralph Lauren designing a line for J.C. Penney and Normal Kamali teaming up with Wal-Mart. According to Sara Albrecht, the owner of Ultimo a designer boutique on Chicago’s Oak Street, “Before, you would never think of luxury markets being promotional or on sale.” The luxury market has been growing at 10% for the past several years but has now slowed down quite dramatically.

“Price has never been as important to the consumer’s shopping level as it is today no matter what the income level,” said Matt Katz, a New York-based managing director of AlixPartners, a consulting and financial advisory firm. “We’ve studied 5,000 consumers annually for the last 15 years, and for the first time in the history of our study, price is the most important driver for a purchase decision.”

For many new entrepreneurs, there is no better way to get into a business than take out a franchise for a profitable venture. The concept of franchising has really become popular, especially now that companies are expanding on a global scale and cannot actually commit to opening stores across the world themselves. Enter the franchisee, who is able to do exactly that and help in creating a global brand and name foe the company. A franchise is an effective way to start a business that is already known, maybe even famous, and establish your business and build capital. The most popular franchises are for fast food chains like Pizza Hut and KFC, but there are lots of other options as well in insurance, hair salons and much more.

Many upscale retailers are moving away from creating new lines of luxury clothing after several months of cutting back by consumers who no longer want to pay full price for garments, let alone by luxury apparel. Companies such as Banana Republic and Ann Taylor launched luxury lines last year, when retailers, consumers and especially marketers were buzzing about “accessible luxury”, a trend that has fallen flat, leaving retailers to roll back prices from these collections. Consumer spending is at an all time low in the US and luxury goods aimed at middle class consumers have been the worst hit.

Companies such as Cache Inc. closed two stores and will be shutting down another two this year. Coldwater Creek’s new Spirit line is being dropped after it was tested in 50 stores. Ann Taylor launched its Collection line in September and the response has not been good so far. Banana Republic’s BR Monogram line which is available at only 30 of its 555 stores in the US and Canada, is being tested and company officials say that it will be doing fine. The company also opened the first store stocking only the BR Monogram line in Manhattan, although company officials say that this is just a test store.

Targeting middle-class shoppers who aspired to buy ever more upscale products once seemed like a no-brainer. The strategy had been successful for everyone from Starbucks Corp. to Coach Inc., which pioneered the approach in the fashion world by pitching its high-margin $400-and-up handbags as “accessible” luxuries.

“The aspirational buyer is pulling back and not buying, or shopping at the outlet malls to a greater extent,” says Craig Johnson, president of Customer Growth Partners LLC. Shoppers with annual incomes of up to $250,000 have trimmed luxury purchases in the past year, he adds.

The higher-priced concepts may work out in the long run, once the economy recovers. And if they are done well, in a limited way, they can create a halo effect for moderately priced brands that can help in the near term, analysts say.

I’ve been noticing a lot of interest lately in health and wellness trends. There are so many more massage therapy places to go to, one can even qualify for medical insurance for some of them and there has been an increase in these massage therapy schools as well. As the bulk of the Baby Boomer generation is getting older, the focus on their health and wellness is taking center stage and leading to many trends and segments that did not exist earlier on. This one looks like it will stay a while and merge with the spa industry, since these massage technicians or therapists will all be professionally qualified.

Being green is not just to be trendy anymore, it has become a way of life for millions of consumers who are significantly changing the way they live in an effort to improve the quality of life for the future generations. One of the biggest wastages in a home is heating the water, which has to be constant heated up again and again, so that it is ready for you no matter when. A better alternative is to use tankless water heater which are much more efficient and save a lot of electricity and ultimately money. I’ve used these before and they are really great, since you never have to worry about the hot water running out on you and work out really well for both large and small families. If you want to make a difference, then this is one important step to take.

The field of market research is a great place to be these days. With a variety of companies looking to enter the market, there is unlimited potential for market research these days. I have seen the increase in demand in this kind of work in the past few years itself that I have been in the field. As companies expand overseas and to new markets, there is a substantial amount of research and review that is required and all companies and individuals who do this kind of work are in great demand. I would recommend going in for a company that has all the necessary credentials and has done similar work in the past as that is a good way of judging how well they will work for you.
