Everyone loves dressing up in costumes, but some of the most fun costumes that I have seen have been these renaissance costumes, which are amazing authentic and really so different from what one sees at all the other costume stores. The Renaissance was a time of change, a time of redoing everything, a time of questioning and its only fitting that these costumes stand apart from all the others, I suppose. I’ve always loved reading about historical times and the Renaissance is one of the most intriguing periods of European history. I have a couple of books about the time period, and hope to build on my collection with time.

It’s the weekend, and this time I’m not going to do any pending work at all. I usually end up spending a lot of my weekends working, simply because I keep checking my mails and see that I have pending work. Well, this time I am only going to relax and so some fun surfing, nothing serious at all. I’ve been meaning to check out the Small Cool apartment contest going on at Apartment Therapy, since the entries can be voted on only for a short period of time. So that’s is what my agenda is for the weekend….surfing, surfing and more surfing.

Now that my shelves and cupboard for the pantry is pretty much decided, I think I need to select a nice wine racks that will fit there, so that we can have a definite place to store and display our wine bottles. I find that unless you have a nice or even an organized set up, one never really ends up having too much wine, since it’s such a hassle to dig the glasses and bottles out or storage. But if one invests in a nice wine rack and display shelves for the glasses, one will end up having more of it, since it becomes so convenient. My personal taste is towards something simple and classic, but not boring of course. It should be something that will look elegant but not fussy and there seem to be lots of choices here. Hoping to find something perfect for our home here.

Taking photographs is getting pretty addictive! For someone who got interested in this area only recently, I have been taking lots of pictures and posting them to my Flickr page. Once you have a decent contacts base, you can get some pretty good critiques of your work, if you’re interested or just have a look at the amazing variety of photographs posted on the site every minute or so. The Explore pages are the ones to get on….so far I’ve had one photograph on Explore and I didn’t even find out about it until a week later, since I wasn’t checking emails and my stats page. It certainly does inspire you to take better photographs and get ideas from others as well.

Found another funny one at bLaugh, and this one really is something for everyone. Just too many people forward things to one another without using the Bcc, often leading to spam and other stuff that happens when your email gets out in the open. C’mon people, it’s a very simple thing to do, just add everyone’s name to the Bcc list instead of the send list, it’s really as simple as that. In the meanwhile, enjoy this cartoon from bLaugh!

Our neighbors recently got invited to a wine club and have become complete wine aficionados in the past fortnight. Interestingly, they never even thought of joining one, until a wine event took place in the office and they were invited for it. It just goes to show how limited one gets by the things that take place in our lives, mostly by routine, that we don’t even stop to consider the joy that life is supposed to bring. Just by joining a wine club, they have discovered a whole new world and are thrilled by it. Look forward to going over to their house and tasting some of their new collection of wines.

I’ve been playing around a lot with my photographs on Flickr lately. I’ve uploaded more than I usually do and found lots of really great photographers there as well. A lot of the photographs are very basic but there are some really outstanding shots there as well. My personal preference goes towards the ones that are not too perfect, since they either look faked or just too posed and primped. There needs to be a certain element of surprise or roughness to a photograph to really make it stand apart and I have found some really great examples of that on Flickr. I would gladly pay money to buy some of the photographs and put them on my walls at home.

We’ve been watching lots of movies lately, trying to catch up with all the movies that we’ve missed. By far the best movie we saw was Taare Zameen Par, which was produced and directed by Aamir Khan, one of the finest Indian actors, and now a director with a keen sense of getting it just right. The movie is simply superb, with scenes that flow into each other just perfectly, dialogues that convey emotions and feelings so well and a cast that is just wonderful. If you haven’t already seen the movie, you must watch it, before it goes from the theaters.

Here’s another old cartoon from BLaugh. No new ones uploaded there for ages, so I decided to dig through the old ones. This one is pretty good, even though it isn’t on the top 10 list. Enjoy
